The 3rd comment on that post says it all. He found one (even by his own admission) person said something racist, and then he blows it up to fill in an entire post about the evils of the zionist propoganda machine and how they create unthinking people. Blah Blah Blah. And then, my hunch proved correct. I googled Max up. He is of course a left wing journalist so OBVIOUSLY he is going to pick on the "zionist indoctrination."
Well gee. That makes a lot of sense. You basically have removed the rug from under any discourse people will have since they are ultimately biased in regards to anything. I at least admit to this video being horribly nasty, but to blow it up the way this man did OBVIOUSLY fits with his intentions.
Remember how you always claim religious people have pre conceived ideas and then try to fit stuff into that? Well, he is doing exactly that with this tape (of one person making racist remarks) and showing how evil the zionist propaganda machine is. It's not like he is hiding it or anything.
Look, lets not fight or anything. If you think Blumenthal is somehow being objective on his stance of zionism and how this video portrays it, then fine. It's your opinion
There is no reason to think they OTD's at all unless there is actual evidence. And anyways, I have seen that most OTD charedi Jews tend to be more compassionate.
His agenda is none of my business. What is my business is the dogma taught in Jewish schools. The opinions people say and think, that rarely get media attention, because most hide their views well enough.
Unless you are just talking about you having an interest in how the Jewish dogma is taught in general. In that case, what does this video have anything to do with it? We don't know where these kids were taught or ANYTHING about these kids at all.
As far as I know, he's an ordinary secular person. I know a lot about the frum world and I feel entitled to have an opinion on it. Maybe you want me to go after Hindus, too?
no, but if you post a video of his AND post his article, then the question of his agenda should be part of the whole discussion. If you believe there isen't an agenda, then OK then.
Obviously these are pretty despicable comments. Moreover, alcohol rarely makes people say things that they weren't already thinking. It simply removes the inhibitions.
However, I'm pretty confident that this is simply not a representative sample of what young Israelis think.
I am an American Jewish dovish moderate who would have voted for Livni if I lived in Israel. My initial reaction to this video was the same as that of the Huffington Post. Getting drunk guys on video to make racist comments is not news; it's the movie Borat. It's hard for me to believe that Arianna Huffington is part of the "Israel lobby," even if you think there is one. She is a lefty from one of the most anti-Israel countries in the world. So maybe every rejection this reporter gets is not part of a vast right-wing conspiracy to silence him.
I agree with him and with Frum Satire that there are poisonous views about Obama (whom I voted for and think is on the right track in his Middle East policy) in the frum community, whether in the US or in Israel. Such views are not limited to those on the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum, as Off the D points out. They are unacceptable and should be condemned by rabbis, especially modern orthodox rabbis in the cities and suburbs. Yisrael Beiteinu's rhetoric about loyalty and no two-state solution is ridiculous and harmful (to the Jews, too!) and should be recognized as such.
But a few anecdotes do not make a case for widespread hyper-nationalist bloodlust on the part of many Israelis. Blumenthal is flat-out wrong about that. Recent polls show, for example, that the majority of Israelis are against new settlements, although they are fuzzy on natural growth. Netanyahu didn't actually win the election either, remember? The "all the Israelis are crazy and want to kill the Arabs" line may sell newspapers or make videos go viral, but it ain't so.
Katrina: >The "all the Israelis are crazy and want to kill the Arabs" line may sell newspapers or make videos go viral, but it ain't so.
In my experience, the more religious they are, the less sympathy they may have for the Arabs. Or the more justified they may feel in their often religiously-inspired disregard of the Arabs' plight.
I think the whole point of Blumenthal's piece was just that there is an alarming disregard for human life on our side, and that's tragic. You have kids saying things like this, and almost no one cares. Or this rabbi. And you'll notice many commenters on Frum Satire getting very defensive and attacking Blumenthal or anyone who levels criticism in any way. I don't see how a society that expects to never be criticized can possibly be healthy.
I have always known that there are religious Jews, both here and in Israel, who hate Arabs, so this wasn't a big surprise to me. There are also secular right-wing Zionists who hate Arabs. There are also many Jews (the majority of American Jews, in fact) who support Obama and his position on settlements. Maybe someone could highlight that every once and a while.
Not many, but that's the point. I know you grew up Orthodox, but a maximum--MAXIMUM--of 20% of American Jews are Orthodox. For non-Ortho Jews, Ortho Jews are rarely even a frame of reference. I think it is possible to inflate the power, influence, and importance of Ortho Jews to the state of the American Jewish community. Israel, however, is a different story . . .
Why is it that when I say (on a different post) that I'll be allowing anonymous commnets, all the brave frum a-holes feel a need to take full advantage?

Not sure I see so much indoctrination here other then some dumb drunk teens.

Your bias is showing.
so is his
and thats the point.
Who are you to judge someone's bias when you've just admitted you're biased?
>some drunk teens
Of course. They're just a bunch of drunk OTDers. Most frummies categorically disagree with everything they said! Why of course!

You're OBVIOUSLY full of it.
>They're just a bunch of drunk OTDers.
What does frummies have anything to do with this video? Lets keep it focused to it and Max's intent.
>You're OBVIOUSLY full of it.
What a great intelligent rebuttal.
::Round of applause::
Oysh. It's just that most Frum Satire commenters said they were OTDers. Find it yourself (I have limited net access right now).
Look, lets not fight or anything. If you think Blumenthal is somehow being objective on his stance of zionism and how this video portrays it, then fine. It's your opinion

I mean compassionate in relation to the whole racial issue.
I don't think this video is about Blumenthal and his views. It's about the kids and their views.
But thanks for the "compassionate" comment:).
Well, obviously he is attaching it all to a greater "hashkafic" opinion he has of zionism. I mean, just read the entire post.
His agenda is none of my business. What is my business is the dogma taught in Jewish schools. The opinions people say and think, that rarely get media attention, because most hide their views well enough.
Why is dogma taught in jewish schools your business and his agenda not?
Aren't they both being spewed to the public in an ever long quest to capture people to each of their side?
Unless you are just talking about you having an interest in how the Jewish dogma is taught in general. In that case, what does this video have anything to do with it? We don't know where these kids were taught or ANYTHING about these kids at all.

I have no idea if he has an agenda. I just thought the article was relevant to the video.

Joshua: I can't speak for young Israelis, but I can say that they're very common views in the black hat community.

Max Blumenthal has an axe to grind and he does so as frequently as he can. This wasn't hard hitting journalism.
If he wanted a real story he could have gone elsewhere. This is tabloid crap.
Relevant link.
>Max Blumenthal has an axe to grind
I don't see what this has to do with anything. This wasn't an opinion piece, or an editorial. It was a video.
